Here's how Buck's County's Sheriff tackled the bench warrant backlog
Danny Ceisler inherited a Bucks County sheriff’s office last year steeped in
controversy over an effort to assign county deputies to help enforce federal
immigration law.
Since assuming leadership in January, the Bristol resident and first time sheriff
recently said that his office has refocused its priorities, which has allowed the 72
deputies to spend more time on core office duties.
The efforts are already seeing positive results, he said, including a 10% reduction in
outstanding criminal warrants on the court dockets compared to the first-quarter of
2025 and a 41% reduction in domestic warrant backlogs in his first three months in
office.
Bucks County's new Sheriff spends whirlwind first few weeks in office.
DOYLESTOWN, PA — Since being sworn in as Bucks County’s newest sheriff, Danny Ceisler reports that his first few weeks on the job have been a whirlwind of 10 to 14-hour days and lots of caffeine.
“We’ve been moving fast,“ the new sheriff reports.
In his first few weeks in office, he has launched a new unit dedicated to high-risk domestic violence situations; locked in partnerships with federal agencies to go after human traffickers, child predators and fugitives; overhauled the department’s hiring/promotion process to focus on merit and physical fitness - no more hiring based on "who you know;” and saved Bucks County taxpayers over $125,000 by cutting wasteful spending that does not contribute to the county's public safety.
Bucks County Sheriff's Office ends partnership with ICE
The Bucks County Sheriff’s Office is ending its partnership with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), citing a desire to ease fears within their immigrant community and enhance public safety.
Bucks County Sheriff Danny Ceisler made the announcement during a press conference on Wednesday, Jan. 14, outside the Bucks County Justice Center on North Main Street in Doylestown.
“After careful evaluation, I have determined that the certain public safety costs of this ICE partnership are greatly outweighed by any potential public safety benefits that this partnership may offer,” Ceisler said. “That is why this morning I signed an order terminating the 287(g) partnership between the Bucks County Sheriff’s Office and ICE.”
Bucks County Sheriff terminates controversial alliance with ICE, prohibits deputies from asking about immigration status
Bucks County Sheriff Danny Ceisler terminated his office’s controversial partnership with ICE Wednesday, citing negative impacts on public safety and immigrants’ trust of law enforcement.
The partnership, known as a 287(g) agreement, which enabled 16 sheriff deputies to act as immigration enforcement, was initiated by former Sheriff Fred Harran, the Trump-aligned Republican who Ceisler defeated in November.
Ceisler said Wednesday that he signed two orders, one revoking the 287(g) partnership, and another that prohibited deputies from asking crime victims, witnesses, and court observers about their immigration status.
Pennsylvania Sheriff explains why he severed partnership with ICE
(NewsNation) — Bucks County, Pennsylvania, Sheriff Danny Ceisler tells NewsNation that severing his county’s partnership with ICE helps their relationship with the local immigrant community.
Ceisler joined “On Balance” following the decision, arguing the county’s streets may be safer as a result.
“It was something called a 287(g) partnership, which is a section of the Immigration and Naturalization Act which allows local law enforcement agencies to voluntarily perform immigration enforcement on behalf of ICE,” Ceisler said.
How Bucks County's Sheriff redefined his office to focus on domestic violence
That shift comes amid an increase in the number of warrants — called Protection From Abuse orders — served against alleged perpetrators of domestic violence.
In January, Danny Ceisler inherited a Bucks County Sheriff’s office that was a lightning rod for debate over deputies’ role in federal immigration enforcement. Now, as he reflects on the changes he’s made in his first six months in office, Ceisler says he is bringing the office back to standard procedure with a shift in staffing to prioritize addressing domestic violence.
Bucks County Sheriff Danny Ceisler ends ICE partnership, fulfilling campaign promise
DOYLESTOWN, Pa. (WPVI) -- Bucks County Sheriff Danny Ceisler has ended a formal partnership with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, a program established under former Sheriff Fred Harran.
The move fulfills a campaign promise and immediately halts the deputizing of county deputies to assist in federal immigration operations.
The decision does not prevent ICE from operating in Bucks County, but it removes the sheriff's office from direct participation.
What a Bucks County Sheriff's race can tell us about American politics
Danny Ceisler slips through a thicket of homemade signs.
“Resist ICE gestapo,” reads one of them. “Déjà vu Germany 1939,” displays another. And another placard, covered in plush, spherical ornaments, has a message for U.S. Representative Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA), whose district office sits directly behind the crowd of No Kings Day protesters in Langhorne, Bucks County: “Free balls for members of Congress who have lost theirs.”
